About the Training Coordinators Council

The Training Coordinators Council formulates recommendations on policies and positions specific to EMS training, education, licensure and certification matters. These recommendations are considered by the NASEMSO Executive Committee, and positions are taken by the association as a whole to represent consensus of all state and territorial EMS offices, nationwide.

Vision, Mission, and Scope

Vision: The vision of the Training Coordinators Council is to be a national leader in developing and maintaining a fully-integrated and functioning EMS education and credentialing system that assures public protection in all states and territories.

Mission: The mission of the Training Coordinators Council is to continually develop and improve research-driven education and training; standardize credentialing and accreditation to improve the quality and availability of emergency medical services; and to promote public health.

Scope: The Training Coordinators Council provides a forum for communication, interaction and networking between peers, other national organizations and federal agencies with similar missions. This forum allows for the sharing of best practices; developing and encouraging mentoring programs; the joint resolution of obstacles and challenges; and the nationwide promotion of evidence-based decision making.

Training Coordinators Council Projects and Grants

Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Project: The Training Coordinators Council is a member of a 15-organization coalition called the Partnership for Children. As such, the Council has entered into a contract with HRSA to direct and support the process for the study of essential pediatric skills and knowledge utilized in pre-hospital care settings, and develop recommendations for refresher training and continuing medical education on such pediatric skills and knowledge. We are currently conducting a literature search regarding pediatric skills and knowledge utilized in pre-hospital care settings, surveying the states concerning EMS pediatric data elements and their collection, and identifying a sampling of states who will provide their data for analysis. We will benchmark this information to the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians practice analysis. We hope to identify specific topics for refresher training and continuing medical education, as well as identify data elements not currently captured by all states that may be valuable for future research. We plan to gain a consensus of our recommendations from a meeting of multi-disciplinary pediatric experts and organizations before the results of the study are published. For additional information on this project, please contact David Miller, EMSC Committee Chairman, at dave.miller@state.co.us or Don Wood, Principal Investigator of the study, at donwood@utah.gov.
